This year I was fortunate enough to win a lottery spot into one of the most popular marathons in the world – the New York Marathon. Tackling a marathon is a gruelling challenge and I immediately wanted to run for my favourite charity Meal Exchange.

My husband I decided to combine his upcoming birthday party with my charitable fundraising efforts. We had a keg party and charged our friends a suggested donation of $20 to the party.  I set up a giving page on Canadahelps.org and friends had the opportunity to donate online or cash to the party.  http://www.canadahelps.org/GivingPages/GivingPage.aspx?gpID=13591

Our friends were generous and had no problem handing over $20 in exchange for drinks and snacks.  Some of them donated more! At the end of the night we raised $864 dollars for Meal Exchange!

As the New York Marathon approaches I’m proud to be training and fundraising for Meal Exchange.  Being a Meal Exchange coordinator in University taught me valuable leadership skills and looked great on my resume.  I’m proud to give back and help future leaders.Having a fundraising party was a simple easy way to fundraise for Meal Exchange.
